Do You Know About Fibroids

What are fibroids ?

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the womb (uterus). Fibroids affect 70%–80% of women aged 30 – 50 yrs. Obesity, a risk factor, increases the oestrogen hormone.

Symptoms (around 1 in 3) :

  • heavy or painful periods
  • tummy (abdominal) and back pain
  • a frequent need to urinate
  • constipation, acidity or distention of abdomen
  • pain or discomfort during sex

Diagnosis and Treatment:

Fibroids with no symptoms, don’t need to be treated. If symptomatic, fibroids require medical treatment or surgical removal. Submucosal fibroids grow and bulge toward the inside of the uterus and are mostly symptomatic requiring surgical removal.

Outpatient hysteroscopy ( i.e without any or minimal anaesthesia) is now possible. It is very safe and comfortable for women. We call it a “ WALK IN & WALK OUT “ procedure.
